Election of Mayor.

To elect The Mayor for the ensuing year who will then make the statutory declaration of acceptance of office.  This will be followed by a short adjournment for robing.

Councillor Lyons moved and Councillor Azad seconded that Councillor W P Forster be elected Mayor. 

Resolved

That Councillor W P Forster be elected Mayor of the Borough for the ensuing year.

The Mayor signed the Statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office.

Apologies for Absence.

3.

Minutes.

To approve the minutes of the Meetings of the Council held on 5 April 2018, as published.

RESOLVED

That the minutes of the Special Meeting and the Ordinary Meeting of the Council held on 5 April 2018 be approved and signed as true and correct records.

4.

Urgent Business.

To consider any business which the Chairman rules may be dealt with under Section 100B(4) of the Local Government Act 1972.

Declarations of Interest.

To receive declarations of disclosable pecuniary and other interests from Members and Officers in respect of any item to be considered at the meeting.

The Council received a report on the names of those who had been returned as Borough Councillors at the Elections on 3 May 2018. 

RESOLVED

That the report be received.

7.

Mayor's Communications.

The Mayor will present a past Mayor’s badge to Councillor Cundy and a past Mayoress’ badge to Mrs Sarah Cundy.

The Mayor thanked all those present for attending and for the honour bestowed on him by the Council.

Past Mayor’s Badge and Mayoress’ Badge

The Mayor thanked Councillor Graham Cundy and Sarah Cundy for their service to the Borough over the past year as Mayor and Mayoress and presented them with a Past Mayor’s Badge and a Past Mayoress’ Badge.

The Mayoress

The Mayor was pleased to announce that Hannah Thompson would support him as Mayoress for the coming year.

The Mayor’s Charity

The Mayor had chosen the York Road Project as the Mayor’s Charity for the coming year.  A number of events would be held during the year to raise money for the Charity.

Forthcoming Events

The Mayor reported that his diary had already been filled with a wide range of engagements, including a forthcoming visit to Woking’s twin town in Germany, Rastatt. Other key events in the coming year included events to mark the centenaries of the end of World War II and women’s suffrage, the opening of the Hoe Valley School, the Party in the Park, the Civic Celebration, the Civic Ball and the Civic Reception.

8.

Presentation of Bibles to the Mayor and Consort.

The North Surrey Branch of Gideons will make a presentation to the Mayor and Mayoress.

Mr Magnus Work representing the Surrey North Branch of Gideons International presented Bibles to the Mayor and Mayoress.

9.

Appointment of Deputy Mayor.

To appoint the Deputy Mayor for the ensuing year who will then make the statutory declaration of acceptance of office.

Councillor Kemp moved and Councillor Barker seconded that Councillor Mrs B A Hunwicks be appointed Deputy Mayor. 

Resolved

That Councillor Mrs B A Hunwicks be appointed Deputy Mayor of the Borough for the ensuing year.

The Deputy Mayor signed the Statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office.

10.

Presentation of Certificates to Past Members.

In recognition of their services to the community as Borough Councillors, the following individuals were presented with a certificate by the Mayor.

o      John Kingsbury.  Ward Councillor for St Johns and Hook Heath (1999 to 2016) and Ward Councillor for Heathlands (2016 to 2018).  Mayor of Woking Borough Council for 2006/07.

o      Anne Murray.  Ward Councillor for Horsell East and Woodham (2003 to 2016) and Ward Councillor for Horsell (2016 to 2018).  Mayor of the Borough of Woking for 2016/17.

o      Mark Pengelly.  Ward Councillor for Mount Hermon (2016 to 2018).

11.

Seating Arrangements.

To approve the seating arrangements for Council meetings.  A chart will be circulated at the meeting.

The Council had before it a plan showing the proposed seating arrangements for Members at Council meetings for the ensuing year.
