Election of Mayor

To elect The Mayor for the ensuing year who will then make the statutory declaration of acceptance of office. This will be followed by a short adjournment for robing.

Councillor Kemp moved and Councillor Barker seconded that Councillor Mrs B A Hunwicks be elected Mayor. 

Resolved

That Councillor Mrs B A Hunwicks be elected Mayor of the Borough for the ensuing year.

The Mayor signed the Statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office.

That the minutes of the Ordinary Meeting of the Council held on 4 April 2019 be approved and signed as a true and correct record.

The Council received a report on the names of those who had been returned as Borough Councillors at the Elections on 2 May 2019. 

RESOLVED

That the report be received.

7.

Mayor's Communications

The Mayor will present a past Mayor’s badge to Councillor Will Forster and a past Mayoress’ badge to Miss Hannah Thompson.

The Mayor thanked all those present for attending and for the honour bestowed on her by the Council.

Past Mayor’s Badge and Mayoress’ Badge

The Mayor thanked Councillor Will Forster and Hannah Taylor for their service to the Borough over the past year as Mayor and Mayoress and presented them with a Past Mayor’s Badge and a Past Mayoress’ Badge.

The Consort

The Mayor was pleased to announce that Alan Hunwicks would support her as Consort for the coming year.

The Mayor’s Chaplain

The Mayor advised that her Chaplain for the coming year would be Mr Steve Petch, Pastor of the Welcome Church.

The Mayor’s Charity

The Mayor had chosen Your Sanctuary and the Women’s Support Centre as the Mayor’s Charities for the coming year.  Your Sanctuary supported victims of domestic abuse and the Women’s Support Centre supported women through group work, one-to-one sessions and counselling around domestic violence, mental health, money issues and housing and homelessness.  A number of events would be held during the year to raise money for the Charities.

Presentation of Bibles to the Mayor and Consort

The North Surrey Branch of Gideons will make a presentation to the Mayor and Consort.

Mr John Hammersley and Mr John Nash representing the Surrey North Branch of Gideons International presented Bibles to the Mayor and Consort.

9.

Appointment of Deputy Mayor

To appoint the Deputy Mayor for the ensuing year who will then make the statutory

declaration of acceptance of office.

Councillor Whitehand moved and Councillor Chrystie seconded that Councillor Hussain be appointed Deputy Mayor. 

Resolved

That Councillor Hussain be appointed Deputy Mayor of the Borough for the ensuing year.

The Deputy Mayor signed the Statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office.

10.

Presentation of Certificates to Past Members.

In recognition of their services to the community as Borough Councillors, the following individuals were presented with a certificate by the Mayor.

o      Hilary Addison.  Ward Councillor for Goldsworth East (2011 to 2016) and Ward Councillor for St Johns (2016 to 2019).

o      Ashley Bowes.  Ward Councillor for Pyrford (2008 to 2019).

o      Ian Eastwood.  Ward Councillor for Goldsworth Park (1991 to 2000), Ward Councillor for Goldsworth West (2000 to 2016) and Ward Councillor for Goldsworth Park (2016 to 2019).  Mayor of the Borough of Woking for 2000/01.

11.

Seating Arrangements 2019/20

To approve the seating arrangements for Council meetings. A chart will be circulated at the meeting.
