Election of Mayor 2022-23.

To elect The Mayor for the ensuing year who will then make the statutory declaration of acceptance of office. This will be followed by a short adjournment for robing.

Councillor Whitehand moved and Councillor Barker seconded that Councillor Hussain be elected Mayor.

RESOLVED

That Councillor S Hussain be elected Mayor of the Borough for the ensuing year.

The Mayor signed the Statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office.

Apologies for Absence.

Minutes.

To approve the minutes of the Meeting of the Council held on 31 March 2022, as published.

That the minutes of the Ordinary Meeting of the Council held on 31 March 2022 be approved and signed as a true and correct record.

Urgent Business.

The Council received a report on the names of those who had been returned as Borough Councillors at the Elections on 5 May 2022.

That the report be received.

7.

Mayor's Communications.

The Mayor will present a past Mayor’s badge to Councillor Liam Lyons.

The Mayor thanked all those present for attending and for the honour bestowed on him by the Council.

Past Mayor’s Badge

The Mayor thanked Councillor Liam Lyons for his service to the Borough over the past year as Mayor and presented him with a Past Mayor’s Badge.

The Mayoress

The Mayor was pleased to announce that his daughter, Faaria Sahi, would support him as Mayoress for the coming year.

The Mayor’s Charity

The Mayor had chosen LinkAble as the Mayor’s Charity for the coming year. A number of events would be held during the year to raise money for the Charity, which supported children and adults with learning disabilities.

Forthcoming Events

The Mayor reported that his diary had already been filled with a wide range of engagements, including a passing out parade at the Army Training Centre in Pirbright, a multi faith football match, and a visit to Merrist Wood College.  The Mayor’s Civic Ceremony would be held on 26 June 2022 at the Shah Jahan Mosque.

Appointment of Deputy Mayor 2022-23.

To appoint the Deputy Mayor for the ensuing year who will then make the statutory declaration of acceptance of office.

Councillor Aziz moved and Councillor Lyons seconded that Councillor Raja be appointed Deputy Mayor.

RESOLVED

That Councillor M Ilyas Raja be appointed Deputy Mayor of the Borough for the ensuing year.

The Deputy Mayor signed the Statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office.

Presentation of Certificates to Past Members.

In recognition of their services to the community as Borough Councillors, the following individuals were presented with a certificate by the Mayor.

o      Nancy Martin (2018 – 2022).  Ward Councillor for Horsell.

o      Simon Ashall (2018 – 2022).  Ward Councillor for Heathlands.

o      Mary Bridgeman (2016 – 2022).  Ward Councillor for Byfleet and West Byfleet.

o      Deborah Hughes (2016 – 2022).  Ward Councillor for Hoe Valley.

o      Chitra Rana (2015 – 2022).  Ward Councillor for Goldsworth West (2015-2016) and Ward Councillor for Goldsworth Park (2016-2022).

o      Debbie Harlow (2014 – 2022). Ward Councillor for Knaphill.

o      Rashid Mohammed (2013 – 2022).  Ward Councillor for Maybury and Sheerwater (2013-2016) and Ward Councillor for Pyrford (2016-2022).

o      Ken Howard (2000 – 2022).  Ward Councillor for Hermitage and Knaphill South (2000-2016) and Ward Councillor for St Johns (2016-2022).
